Why is the birth rate declining in the world? The UN identified the main reasons.

The United Nations noted in a new report that low birth rates around the world are not related to the youth's desire to have children. People want to be parents but face various obstacles that hinder them from fulfilling this desire. The main reason that prevents achieving the desired number of children is financial difficulties, as well as fear of the future, unstable jobs, and uneven distribution of household duties.

The UN report also recommends that governments eliminate barriers preventing people from becoming parents, particularly by investing in affordable housing, creating decent jobs, paying parental leave, and providing quality reproductive services.

Demographic situation in Ukraine

In 2024, an increase in births and a decrease in mortality were recorded in Ukraine compared to the previous year. However, expert Oleksandr Hladun expressed doubts that the improvement in the demographic situation is due to migration, claiming that it will not significantly affect the overall population of Ukraine.
