Lukashenko released 14 political prisoners at Trump's request
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed a decree to release 14 political prisoners at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump. This was reported by Lukashenko's spokeswoman, Natalia Eismont, referring to the Telegram channel 'Pool of the First'.
Overall, most of the released individuals are not citizens of Belarus. Among them are citizens of Japan, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, and the United States. Some Belarusians included in the list were convicted for extremist and terrorist activities. One of those released is Sergey Tikhanovsky, and the decision to release him was made with the aim of family reunion.
The negotiation process between Lukashenko and U.S. President's special envoy Keith Kellogg lasted one and a half hours. The main topics of discussion were sanctions against Belarus, conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as relations with Russia and China.
The signed decree to release 14 political prisoners at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump is an important step in the political relations between Belarus and the United States. This move underscores the importance of diplomatic negotiations and the possibility of resolving conflicts through the negotiation process.Read also
