Promising fencer Lukashenka changed citizenship from Ukrainian to American.


Fencer Darii Lukashenka, 18, changed his citizenship from Ukrainian to American. He is ranked sixth in the world among juniors, which is the highest achievement among Ukrainian fencers. Lukashenka has also won awards at the Junior World Cups in fencing and became the silver medalist at the European Fencing Championship in sabre in 2023.
Darii is the son of the famous Ukrainian fencer Volodymyr Lukashenka, who became the world champion in 2003.
Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov has been proposed for the position of president of the International Fencing Federation. The elections will take place on November 30 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and his only opponent will be Otto Drakenberg from Sweden. Usmanov has been supported by 103 national federations, while Drakenberg has the support of only the Swedish Fencing Federation.
Ukraine has appealed to the president of the International World Games Association requesting to extend the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 12th World Games in 2025 due to Russia's aggression and Russian crimes against the Ukrainian people. Ukraine also reminded about the ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes in the World Games 2022 and calls for the preservation of these restrictions in 2025. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Sports Committee of Ukraine supported this appeal.
