Poland begins construction of fortifications on the border with Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.

Poland plans to acquire heavy engineering equipment for constructing barriers on the border with Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. The contracts will amount to over $150 million, stated the Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk.
«As part of the construction of the «Eastern Shield» and flood aftermath elimination, we plan to purchase heavy equipment worth over $150 million to strengthen sappers and units that will build engineering dams on the borders with Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine», he noted.
Earlier, Tomczyk reported the start of the construction of the «Eastern Shield» by the end of the year. The project envisages the creation of a network of fortifications, barriers, bunkers, and reconnaissance systems on the borders with Russia and Belarus.
The cost of the «Eastern Shield» is estimated at 10 billion zlotys (over $2.5 billion), and the completion of construction is planned for 2028.
It's worth noting that no new blockade has started on the Ukraine-Poland border, and truck movement is proceeding without hindrance. The State Border Service reported this.
A representative of the SBS noted that Ukrainian and Polish services continue to communicate, and Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Poland are in control of the situation.
Previously, it was reported that Polish farmers are preparing to block the «Medyk - Shehyni» checkpoint. Local farmers announced a protest action, planning to block the movement of freight vehicles at the «Medyk - Shehyni» checkpoint from October 8 to December 31, 2024.
