The Russian Federation is actively recruiting citizens from Central Asia to participate in the war against Ukraine. Mercenary fighters are promised quick earnings, but the real chances of survival during combat are very low. Many of them have died during the hostilities.
According to the information from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the latest fallen mercenary fighters were:
- Umarov Sirozhiddin Sabirdjanovich, born in 1984 in Tashkent.
- Holbuvazoda Muhammad Faizullo, also known as 'Basmach', born in 1984.
Russia is forming special units of migrants to be used in dangerous areas of the front. Such fighters, if they survive, may face persecution for participating in armed conflicts. Thus, mercenaries from Central Asia who go to war on the side of Russia face not only the risk of losing their lives on the battlefield but also potential problems in the future.
