A mass fish die-off occurred near the Teterev River in the Korbutivka area of Zhytomyr. A criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident, reports the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office.
It is known that many fish of various species have died, such as bream, perch, crucian carp, pike-perch, roach, and others. In total, there were about 4.4 thousand units.
Following the inspection, it was established that the dissolved oxygen content in the water was nearly three times below the standard level.
As a result, the fishery suffered damage amounting to over 4 million hryvnias.
The Zhytomyr District Prosecutor's Office has entered information about the violation of water protection regulations into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. This violation led to the pollution of surface waters and created an environmental hazard (Part 1, Article 242, Criminal Code of Ukraine). The materials of the criminal case have been transferred to the district police department in Zhytomyr for pre-trial investigation.
Previously, water darkening was observed in the Desna River near Chernihiv. A mass fish kill also occurred there.
