Ukraine has resumed scrap metal exports to pro-Russian Transnistria.
In August 2024, Ukraine resumed scrap metal exports to Transnistria - the self-proclaimed republic on the territory of Moldova, which is de facto controlled by Russia.
This is the first shipment of Ukrainian scrap metal to the PMR since the beginning of the war, according to data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
The first shipment amounts to 276 tons of scrap and is carried out on the basis of a concluded contract between LLC "D-Kamet" and the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant.
The export document indicates that this scrap metal is intended for Moldova. LLC "D-Kamet" paid the export duty to the state budget of Ukraine.
The resumption of scrap metal exports to Transnistria will bring additional foreign currency revenues and support Ukrainian scrap metal collectors.
However, this may lead to higher scrap metal prices in the domestic market. Nevertheless, scrap metal exports can be seen as an indirect support for the economy of the Russian-controlled region.
